today has been a long day. i just came home from running around southern california. rosh lost twice, double elimination. i saw tom the best in the u.s. he has a crazy nina so i've been told. karina, roshidi, and i ate at gushi's and the diddy reese, that's going to be a tradition every time we go to UCLA. we also saw chris yang, which was pretty cool. he's gotten cuter, but i'm afraid he's still a pothead. it was nice seeing that kid again.
we left LA around 730 and arrived at the madstone theaters at 930. 2 hours, not bad at all. we made it in time to watch lolo's child, a great film. the first filipino-american film i've ever seen. it was filmed in two weeks with a budget of $20,000. the movie depicted a lot of different aspects of filipino-american culture from filipino humor, religion, abuse, and the heritage itself. romeo candido directed the film in toronto and also starred in it. that film was a true independent film, filled with symbolism open to interpretation. i really enjoyed the film. it was funny and sad. i admit tears were building up. i am really glad that there are people out there like romeo candido. it gives me hope that i too can make that type of a difference. plus, i've never seen a filipino-american story told so well or in fact ever. thank you romeo candido and your cast for putting together that movie.
along with watching a great film tonight, i met judy who is the president of the san diego chapter of FANHS. i also met sev who is a poet. it is really great to discover a filipino community.
recap:exceptional day.
feeling: in need of something beneath this amazement
never allowing myself to grieve
always wanting to take him back in my arms
wanting to wash away yester days
but i'm doing better now without you

p.s. my favorite scene in the movie is when junior makes sarah paper flowers and covers her as she sleeps with them.
